“Participating in FBU has given me the opportunity to compete against some of the nation's top talent while challenging me to grow as both a student and an athlete. Through this experience, I have improved my football IQ, technique, confidence, leadership, and work ethic by learning from elite coaches and competing alongside outstanding teammates. FBU has taught me that success is earned through discipline, preparation, and perseverance. Every time I step onto the field, I strive to represent my family, my team, and my community with pride, character, and excellence.”

Under Armour All-American Experience

For Landrey Thompson, football is about more than the accolades. It is about competition, development, discipline and continuing to chase the next level.

As an offensive tackle, Landrey understands that the work done in the trenches is not always the first thing people notice. His Under Armour All-American experiences have given him the opportunity to compete against talented athletes from across the country, learn from different coaches and challenge himself against some of the best players in his age group.

“Earning an invitation was an accomplishment, but it was not the finish line. It made me want to keep improving.”

— Landrey Thompson

The experience has strengthened his confidence while also making him hungrier to improve his strength, footwork, technique and overall understanding of the offensive tackle position.

More importantly, Landrey has learned that being a great athlete extends beyond the field.

Listen. Compete. Be coachable. Handle your academics. Respect your teammates. Keep working.

Landrey's Advice to Young Athletes

“Work when nobody is watching.”

Landrey's message to athletes chasing an All-American opportunity is simple:

PUT IN THE WORK!

Don't only work hard when a camp is coming up, when coaches are watching or when the cameras are out. Work on the little things every day.

  • 01Learn your position.
  • 02Listen to your coaches.
  • 03Take conditioning seriously.
  • 04Get stronger.
  • 05Develop your technique.
  • 06Handle your schoolwork.

And don't get discouraged because someone else may be bigger, faster or receiving more attention.

Prepare before your opportunity arrives.

And when it does arrive, enjoy the moment—but don't become satisfied.

Use it as motivation for what's next.

Tamekia

A Parent's Perspective

“My favorite part was watching Landrey experience something he had worked hard to earn.”

For Tamekia, the All-American experience has been about watching her son discover what is possible when talent is combined with discipline, academics, coaching and consistent work. She is proud of Landrey's accomplishments on the field, but just as proud of who he is becoming away from it.

His recognition through organizations such as the National Junior Honor Society is especially meaningful to their family and reinforces the importance of education, accountability, leadership and humility.

Her advice to athletes and parents is to focus on development before recognition.

“Celebrate their accomplishments, but also teach them that every accomplishment creates another opportunity to grow.”

She encourages parents to give their athletes opportunities to compete, surround them with great coaches and build a village that is willing to provide both encouragement and constructive criticism.

Get 1% better every day.

And most importantly:

“Parents—enjoy the journey!!”

There will be early mornings, long drives, practices, camps, wins, losses, great performances and difficult ones. But there will also be moments when you look at your athlete and realize just how much they have grown.

Those are the moments worth remembering.
